Frequently Asked Questions about the Association

How are Independent Methodist different from other Methodists?

We are technically not a denomination.  We are a voluntary Association of Independent Methodist Churches.

We do hold to traditional Wesleyan-Arminian Theology.  We do not own the property of the local church.  We do not appoint pastors but they are screened and credentialed by headquarters and called by the vote of the local congregation.  We voluntarily support the headquarters, youth camps, retreats for all ages, missions and church planting.

Our goal is not control or uniformity but unity.

What are your basic beliefs?

  • Inerrancy of scriptures
  • Deity of Christ.  His virgin birth, atoning death, bodily resurrection and imminent return
  • Salvation by Faith
  • A Holy Spirit-enabled Holy life

How are you supported?

We are supported by volunteer donations from churches and individuals.  We do not assess churches or make financial demands from our churches or individuals.

How does a church join?

A church may join by making an application, agreeing with the articles of belief and make a commitment to participate and support.  We have no desire to own your property.

What do you do for youth?

We hold three regional youth camps each summer, three youth retreats each winter and we assist churches in youth programs and in securing youth ministers.

How are ministers acquired?

A minister may apply for credentials by filling out a questionnaire, appearing for a ministerial inquiry, agree and adhere to the articles of belief and constitution of the Association of Independent Methodists. Each church calls a pastor from a candidate that has been screened and credentialed by A.I.M.  We encourage our people to answer God's call to ministry and encourage them to prepare with the best training available.

Where are your churches located?

We are located in the following six states:

  • Alabama
  • Florida
  • Georgia
  • Mississippi
  • Tennessee
  • Virginia

Internationally:

We have five sister churches in Northern Ireland.  We have declared Association and partnership with these likeminded and doctrinally compatiable churches.
